Townhall.com sends me mailers all the time. Some of them have kernels of truth scattered here and there for good measure but most of them border on complete insanity... of the "you'd have to be really dumb and intellectually lazy to actually buy this garbage" variety. Take the most recent mailer I got from them that attempts to equate the Humane Society of the United States with terrorists... here's a totally awesome exerpt:
"If you enjoy a good steak, if you hunt or fish, if you wear leather shoes, if you take your kids to the circus, if you (or a family member) owe your life to medical research that involved lab animals—the Humane Society of the United States doesn’t share your values. The group has the same agenda as PETA and the rest of the animal rights industry. And it is an industry. The Humane Society of the United States has an astonishing $200 million in the bank." That's right America, the Humane Society wants to take away your steak! Now the "Christian" right is coming out against the people who stand up for defenseless animals... one of the only advocates of the defenseless. How very "Christian" of them. They even go so far as to throw one of their own Rush Limbaugh under the bus. To make their case the "Humane Watch" website set up by "The Center for Consumer Freedom" (a right wing think tank with an obvious political agneda) points to a man named John JP Goodwin as an Animal rights activist who has threatened death against employees and their families at animal testing laboratories near Philadelphia. To date I can't find anything from a legitimate media outlet to confirm this allegation. Aside from the video linked in the mailer they sent that was supposedly removed for copyright issues and websites such humanewatch.org and activistcash.com - both of which are operated by The Center for Consumer Freedom... interesting. |
